Fishing Gear
We always strive to outfit our clients with nothing but the best fishing gear available. To that end we have outfitted all our boat with Avet Reels paired with Shakespeare Ugly Stick Rods. Our bait casting rods are 7’ Ugly Stick Rods rated at 40#. Our trolling rods are Ugly Stick Trolling Rods with roller guides.
We chose Avet Reels for their reliability and performance. All the reels are made of precision machined 6061-T6 aluminum and stainless steel components. The reels have a dry drag system to ensure continuous smooth and reliable operation. We provide Avet LX model reels with 40# line for bait casting and light trolling, Avet Pro EX30 Two Speed reels with 60# line for trolling for Dorado, Tuna and Stripped Marlin, and the heavy duty Avet Pro EXW50 Two Speed reels with 80# line for Blue and Black Marlin. All the reels have had the strike pre-set drag system adjusted to match the reel’s line.
We also provide a full line of feathers and lures for catching the large game fish in our waters.
Should you want to bring your own gear to either use in place of ours or to augment our, we recommend the follow:
Bait Rod: Conventional or Spinning with a line rated at 40# and at least 7’ in length
Trolling Rod: 5’ with roller guides with a line rating of at least 60#
Reels: Conventional or Spinning with a line capacity of at least 300 yards of 40# mono for the bait reel and at least 500 yards of 60# mono for the trolling reels.
Hooks: We prefer the “J” hook for live bait in either 3/0 or 5/0 size. If you prefer circle hooks bring the same sizes.
Feathers, Jigs and Lures:
The feathers we use for Marlin are "Kona's" and "Zukers" and customs in the color patterns of:
- yellow and red,
- green and orange or yellow
- purple and black
- red and yellow.
- yellow and green
- blue and white
